The word „Yoga“ originates from Sanskrit and means „unification“ – the unification of die soul with the universe and the body with the spirit. In India Yoga is used as a generic term for a whole set of practical exercises and healing techniques.
What some see as being an accumulation of exotic contortions is actually an age old tradition to find the answer to the question "what is our position in the world and why are we here?".
In western philosophy the answer has always been sought using the intellect. This is not the case in eastern philosophy, where physical exercises and spiritual development always went hand in hand.
Yoga is not a religion. It serves to reach spiritual self-realisation without being tied to a certain conception of God.
