Reiki

The Universal Energy

Reiki is Japanese for universal energy. It describes the age old art of physical, mental and spiritual healing through channelling. This method of healing has been around for over 2000 years and was already used in many ancient cultures. It almost got lost in the realms of time but was rediscovered and further developed in the twentieth century Dr. Mikao Usui.

Reiki is neither a religion nor a method of healing in the orthodox sense. Reiki is a form of inner healing - the body's own self-healing powers are activated facilitating self-development and personal growth.

How Reiki works

It has been proven that natural energy flows from our hands. The energy flows through the hand chakras (see below) into the aura, chakras and body. This energy activates the self-healing powers on all levels - mind, body and spirit. The energy that flows through the hands is not the personal energy of those giving the treatment; they only serve as a channel for the universal energy. This channel is "opened" by a Reiki teacher during a so-called attunement or initiation.

The energy which flows through this channel finds its way to where it is required (e.g. blockages and illness)

On the physical level Reiki:

relieves pain
promotes de-toxification and purification
improves the circulation
relaxes tense muscle
alleviates digestive disorders

On the psychological level Reiki:

relaxes and balances
relieves stress, nervous tension and fear

Negative side-effects have never been reported.
However, Reiki must NOT be used:

during operations
on clients with a pacemaker
on broken bones that are not yet in plaster

Reiki is the universal energy but it cannot influence anyone against their will. Each illness has its reason and meaning; any un-reflected treatment is as meaningless as giving medication haphazardly. Reiki can release blockages but cannot prevent someone's will if they are not yet ready to receive and accept healing or are not prepared to work on themselves.

It must be stressed that a Reiki treatment cannot substiture a visit to a doctor or practitioner of complementary medicine. On the contrary - a combination of medical treatment and Reiki energy can lead to optimal results. Acute illnesses, of course, should be left to an experienced doctor. Reiki should not be seen as an alternative to or even as being in competition with orthodox medicine but rather as a complementary and holistic treatment. In the United States Reiki is acknowledged as a recognised additional training for all healing professions and in England doctors and healers work hand in hand in over 2000 clinics.
